  • Terrible is just the beginning

Words can not begin to describe how horrible this app really is. Considering that the entry level Foxtel plan is up to 2.5x the price of other entry level plans of streaming providers I think it's reasonable for this app work just as well as competitors. It doesn't. I would have even been happy it works at all, but apparently that's too much to ask for $25 a month. The lack of an Apple TV app is clearly an attempt of forcing customers to shell out $99 on the poorly rated Foxtel Now box. The AirPlay experience is anything but stress free, consistent pausing if one dares to use the Apple TV remote, although the pausing is somewhat pleasant compared to the random disconnections, if after a disconnection you think you can simply go to 'Continue watching' from where you were up to, you're kidding yourself. Why would such a feature remember the point in the episode you were up to when it can simply start you from the start?
  • Recent bug prevents resuming playback via airplay.

Around Christmas time, something that always worked, stopped working. Something they did in the back-end prevents you from resuming playback via Apple TV, if you pause for any reason. It's incredibly inconvenient to be unable to pause, and then have to exit the playback and start it again. It also doesn't resume from the point at which you last stopped, it just starts the episode all over again. That's terrible. Also, we need an Apple TV app please! Take my subscription money and strop trying to sell me a HDMI puck. Also every app should do portrait mode on iPad. I should be able to launch an episode via airplay and get on with my business without switching orientations. If netflix can do it, so can you.
  • 2 stars for laziness.

App functions quite well, not too many features I would ask to be added. However, foxtel’s tardiness in updating the app is inexcusable. All the other streaming services, including the free ones, updated their apps for the new iPad Pro dimension MONTHS ago, yet the company with the highest fees and the most money to play with still chooses to restrict its users to viewing on a small portion of the screen. This is clearly a company that doesn’t care at all, as long as they get our money. The smart TV app has also been barely functional for almost a year now, and the PS4 app also has bugs that occur more often than not, and there are no signs of Foxtel making any effort to fix it. Their customer support resorts to flat out lying or ignoring the customers. Everything that’s wrong with big businesses.
